Richards Memorial Library in Paxton is seeking a Substitute Library Assistant. We are a small and busy library in the heart of Paxton.
Hours: Must have availability Saturdays (10am-2pm). Occasional daytime, evening and weekend hours to cover shifts for staff vacation/sick days. This is a substitute position with no guaranteed hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (intended only as illustrations of the type of work that may be performed): Staff the circulation desk. Use Evergreen to check out, renew, check in, and place holds on library materials. Collect materials from the outside book drop. Assist patrons in person, on the phone and via email. Provide information about library events, services, and policies. Assist patrons with library card use, the catalog, printers, and faxing.
Must be proficient with computers and have working knowledge of Windows, Chrome, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, and basic search techniques. Recent library experience or customer service is preferred.
Physical, Motor and Visual Skills:
Physical Skills. Minimal physical demands are required to perform most of the work. The work principally involves sitting, with intermittent periods of stooping, walking, and standing. May be required to lift objects such as files, boxes of papers, office supplies, and office equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
Motor Skills. Duties require motor skills for activities such as moving objects, using office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, personal computers, handheld technology, and other office equipment.
Visual Skills. Visual demands require routinely reading documents for general understanding and analytical purposes.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates Degree preferred.
Salary
$15.92 / hour - FY25 budgeted amount

The Board of Library Trustees consists of six elected members. The Library Director is appointed by the Library Trustees, and shall serve as an ex officio member of the Board. The Trustees have the responsibility for the care, superintendence and management of the Richards Memorial Library.
“The number of elected trustees for the Richards’s Memorial Library shall be six (6) and hereafter, they shall be elected on the official ballot."
