The Board of Library Trustees consists of six elected members. The Library Director is appointed by the Library Trustees, and shall serve as an ex officio member of the Board. The Trustees have the responsibility for the care, superintendence and management of the Richards Memorial Library.

Richards Memorial Library - Paxton is seeking a Substitute Library Assistant for a busy circulation desk in a small library. The Substitute Circulation Clerk assists patrons, performs circulation duties, and completes various administrative tasks at a busy, small library.
Hours: As needed including some daytime, evening and weekend hours to cover shifts for staff vacation/sick days. Must have availability evenings (Tuesday and Thursday until 8pm), Fridays (between 9am and 5pm), and Saturdays (10am-2pm). This is a substitute position with no guaranteed hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (intended only as illustrations of the type of work that may be performed): Staffs the circulation desk and uses Evergreen to check out, renew, check in, and place holds on library materials. Collects, processes and sorts returned materials from the book drop. Handles interlibrary loans. Shelves books, shelf-reads, and may help with collection maintenance projects. Assists patrons in person, on the phone and via email. Instructs library users on library card use and related policies.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills including: patience, friendliness, flexibility, and team working skills. Ideal candidates will be detail-oriented, organized, and have the ability to pivot between tasks while providing excellent customer service to all patrons.
Must be proficient with computers with working knowledge of Windows, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, and basic search techniques. Ability to learn Evergreen and keep up with frequent constant software updates. Preferred: experience with advanced search techniques, Libby, and Overdrive. Must be able to use office equipment including a fax machine, receipt printer, laminator, and copiers/printers. Ability to prioritize and work with distractions. Subject to CORI check.
Lift boxes of books up to 30 lbs. Bend, reach, and other repeated movements throughout the work day.
High school diploma or equivalent. Associates Degree preferred.
$15.00 / hour
